Milestones

Publication and presentation of the book "Preventive Medicine and Public Health in Clinical Practice" (Mapfre Foundation). Edited by JM Aranaz and J de Vicente, and written in collaboration with other members of the group and nearly 300 experts, this two-volume (1691-page) reference work focuses on integrating prevention and public health into clinical care. Development and registration of three virtual reality applications for training sterilization unit staff, in collaboration with the Bioengineering and Telemedicine Group (GBT) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the Biomedical Research Networking Center for Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER BBN).
The project "Design of tools to transform the conceptualization of clinical error within and outside the walls of social and healthcare centers (DECIDE)" has begun. Funded by the ISCIII's 2024 AES grant, with Dr. San José Saras as Principal Investigator, it integrates hospital care, primary care, and nursing homes. The project aims to extend the principles of a "just culture" and provide new information on key elements in the social and professional conceptualization of the human factor in safety incidents.
Funding was secured from the ISCIII's 2025 AES grant for the project "Optimization of the quality of care for nursing home residents and coordination in age-focused care (SAFE-AGE)." Principal Investigator: Dr. C. Díaz-Agero Pérez. This pioneering study in Spain focuses on integrating care for institutionalized elderly individuals with hospital care. It includes 34 nursing homes within the health area affiliated with the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital. This addresses one of the main challenges facing the European healthcare system: population aging and the rise in multimorbidity.
The Spanish Society of Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Healthcare Management has commissioned the ENEAS II study (National Study on Adverse Events and Overutilization) to lead and coordinate its implementation. The study aims to analyze the frequency and characteristics of adverse events in Spanish hospitals and estimate the frequency, cost, and health impact of overutilization. It will be the largest study of its kind worldwide, involving more than 150 hospitals across all autonomous communities, providing a sample of over 155,000 patients.
