Lung cancer translational research
The Lung Cancer Translational Research Group (GITCaP) is dedicated to the research and treatment of thoracic tumors, with a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, pulmonologists and other specialists. Their lines of research focus on identifying predictive markers of treatment efficacy and improving patient survival and quality of life. In addition, they collaborate in clinical trials and projects on microbiota, blood biomarkers, cancer in non-smokers and the impact of radon. They also investigate the use of artificial intelligence in radiology and the promotion of physical exercise to reduce inflammation.

Milestones
- Award for Best Scientific Contribution: Dr. Cabañero, from the Thoracic Surgery Department, received the award for best scientific contribution of the year from the journal Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery for his work "Short and long-term outcomes of anatomic lung resection surgery with bronchovascular reconstruction versus pneumonectomy."
- Patient Health Education Program: Consolidation of the Lung Cancer Patient School (Dr. Olmedo) as a structured patient education and intervention program with biannual sessions, multidisciplinary participation from various members of the group, and a very positive impact on patients.
- Contribution to International Clinical Guidelines: Dr. Pilar Garrido participated as an author in the ESMO clinical guidelines for the management of early and locally advanced lung cancer, contributing to the standardization of the diagnostic and therapeutic approach.
- Development of research lines in artificial intelligence: The Radiology Department, under the leadership of Dr. Luis Gorospe, promoted research lines in AI applied to lung cancer, including the prospective PINPOINT study and publications on AI-based chest X-ray tools.
- Gender perspective in oncology: Dr. Pilar Garrido led initiatives on gender perspective in lung cancer, including participation in institutional reports and national outreach and awareness activities.
