Surgical applications of drug delivery systems
The current research group is a multidisciplinary team that allows it to address different areas of interest focused on experimental and translational surgery. The research group is focused on the development of biodegradable drug-eluting devices through polymeric matrices, which allow local drug instillation, allowing greater precision and reduction in the dose of the active ingredient. Another important research activity is focused on the development of cardiac devices, mainly on the design of a definitive artificial implantable ventricle. The group's activity is focused on the research projects they are implementing in these two research activities.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
- To develop a biodegradable polymeric matrix capable of controlled and programmed release of drugs at topical level.
- To advance in the design of novel biodegradable ureteral stents with antireflux capacity.
- To develop a new questionnaire for the evaluation of ureteral catheter-related symptomatology in urological patients.
- To identify factors related to biofilm formation in double-joint ureteral catheters and their relationship with bacteriuria and urinary tract infection in patients.
- To develop new intracavitary instillation systems for adjuvant treatment of upper urinary tract urothelial tumor. Coated biodegradable ureteral stents releasing different chemotherapy cycles.
- To evaluate new approaches by means of gynecological interventional ultrasonography.
- To evaluate new intracardiac implantable devices for the treatment of advanced heart failure.
